Tianjin
Tianjin is the third largest city in China with over 10 million people. The name literally translates into "Heaven's (Tian) Ford (Jin)". Tianjin was founded in 1404 by Emperor Yongle when he changed its name from "Zhigu". Tianjin played a notable role in the Second Opium War (1856-1860) and the Boxer Rebelliion (1900).
The manufacturing sector is the largest and fastest growing sector of Tianjin's economy. The average disposible income per capita per year is 2000 USD and rising quickly. The majority of Tianjin residents are Han Chinese. The most notable ethnic minority are a Muslim group called the "Hui", most of whom lived in the HongQiao district, where the school is situated.
