Points to Consider

Being so far away from home, it is tempting to reject the foreign culture. It is even tempting to become critical of it. Unfortunately when this happens, people can become offended and return home before they had originally intended. Our community is constantly challenged to embrace different nationalities, such as British, American, Canadian, New Zealanders, Australian, Korean, Chinese and other people and their cultures, as a means to better understand the students we are teaching.

As part of a Community we do our best to get along with each other. Every one of us is different, but we have found that this is a unique opportunity to build lasting relationships. We have found that the best way to do this is to include others whenever possible and to lend a helping hand when needed.

Another thing we are constantly reminded of is the need to be flexible. Many times we have been called upon to do certain tasks at the last minute, but we have found help in everything we have been asked to do. Every person who has been called to this place will be used. By spending time with the one we trust, we receive direction, strength and empowering for the teaching position we have been given.

The people in our Community have found it essential to communicate with each other on a regular basis. This is something that constantly needs work. We always ask questions to make sure we understand everything that is being discussed. Guessing always leaves room for error, but asking for an explanation always seems to clarify the questions we have.

We would like to encourage each one of you. You are unique. You have gifts and abilities that can well enhance the work here. Sometimes in a strange atmosphere it is easy to forget your special gifts. We would like to encourage you to use these gifts. By doing so you will touch many lives and your life will never again be the same.
