The Students

The Peace Institute attracts students from all over Tianjin. Relationships begin in the classroom, but there are many opportunities outside the classroom to build friendships with students.

Coffee House

Every month, the Peace Institute holds a "Coffee House", where the school is opened up to the community. There are English and Korean discussion corners, a chance to practice western-style cooking, make handicrafts and play games. It gives a chance for Chinese people to practice their English and for foreigners to share their values. There is a different theme every month, for example, Christmas Coffee House, Easter Coffee House and Thanksgiving Coffee House.

At the end of the Coffee House there is a performance by the teachers and students. There are songs, dancing, short plays, readings and more games.

Outside of school

Chinese students are open and friendly. You will be able to develop your friendships outside of the classroom. Don't be surprised if a student invites you back to his or her house for a meal. But make sure you take an appropriate small gift, like some fruit!
